Mittenwald

Hallo!

I’m writing to you once again from the little town of Mittenwald, Germany. Though I will soon be making my way back to Munich where I will eventually catch a night train to Luxembourg. It’s a 14-hour commute via train and bus, but I’ll sleep. And it saves me money on a hostel!

Yesterday was a wonderful and relaxing day. It was just what I needed. I took the train from Munich to Mittenwald and wandered around the town trying to find my hotel, the Alpenhotel Reiger. I had to ask two people for directions but I finally found it. And it was so adorable. My room was very small, definitely made for one person. It was clean, classy and had lots of character. I had a little back porch area too with a full view of the mountains where I could sit and read or watch the world go by. I did both 🙂 And the great part was it only cost me 49€. Not too bad.

After settling into my hotel room, I explored more of the town. Mittenwald really is very lovely. Colorful storefronts, friendly people, stunning scenery. The whole town is quiet and relaxed. It’s very different from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

I found a small cafe along one of the main streets, and ordered a piece of cake and a glass of wine. The wine came in a little bottle and was made in Germany. It was delicious. And the setting was exactly what I hoped for when I came to Mittenwald. I ate, drank, smiled at passerby, and read.

Afterwards, I took an hour-long walk through the town, checking out the different restaurants and homes. I eventually settled on eating at the restaurant in my hotel. I ordered Wiener schnitzel with pork and fries, and another glass of wine. Mmm mmm.

Eating alone in a restaurant full of other people was a little intimidating at first, but there were at least two other people in the same boat. One, like me, had his book with him and he was reading it aggressively. That’s the only way I know how to describe what he was doing haha. He was wearing small, circular glasses with a black beret kind of thing. And he kept staring intently at his book, violently flipping it to one side so he could see more of the page, and then scribbling in it with a pencil. No idea what was going on there, but it was entertaining to watch.

After dinner, I sat outside and called my parents briefly (wifi was a little spotty and I can only call when I have wifi). Then I went upstairs, got in bed, finished my book, and went to sleep. And I slept for 9 straight hours without waking up once. Guess I needed it!

Tschus for now.
